The Emmaus Ethical Fund

The role of the fund

The Emmaus Ethical Fund (EEF) is a guarantee fund created following an initiative by Emmaus International and in partnership with Banca Etica (see Banca Etica).

The fund aims to support the creation and development of solidarity economy activities both inside and outside the movement.

How it works

Emmaus groups wishing to contribute can deposit funds in the EEF.

The overall sum is used as a guarantee for loans granted by Banca Etica to Emmaus groups or organisations outside the movement that share its values.

The procedure

Loans are granted by Banca Etica in consultation with Emmaus International. They are solely available for the creation or development of solidarity, social and citizen economy enterprises and activities.

Before being approved, projects undergo in-depth evaluation by Banca Etica. The bank analyses their economic and financial viability and the quality of the work in terms of social and environmental performance.
Once a loan has been awarded, Banca Etica continues to closely and regularly monitor and support the project.

What is the aim of the fund?

Apart from the international solidarity initiatives run within the movement, the Emmaus Ethical Fund (EEF) is important because it enables member groups to pool their resources.

Funded by financial contributions from all the groups and available to all, the fund is an additional tool for fighting extreme poverty and the causes of extreme poverty throughout the world.
