A major gathering bringing together all the Emmaus Europe member organisations, the Regional Assembly (or the Europe Region General Assembly) is held every four years in a town in Europe.
The UK has offered to host the 5th meeting of Emmaus Europe’s highest authority in Manchester. On 3-6 September 2015, close to 300 people from 17 countries will meet to decide upon Emmaus Europe’s work areas and priorities for the coming years.
A decade after the association was founded; first and foremost the aim will be to review Emmaus Europe’s development in order to observe the key phases that have been completed. The credibility of the policy directions for the 2015 – 2019 period depends upon on it.
The numerous debates in the workshops and meetings will then lead to an action plan for the period up to 2020 being developed; the plan will reflect the work based on their firm beliefs undertaken by all the Emmaus Europe stakeholders.
Outside speakers will also attend two debates / lectures. They will convey their ideas and feelings and will shed light on the issues in line with their areas of expertise. This sharing of experiences should help to generate great ideas that will shape the future of Emmaus Europe.
This major event in the association’s lifecycle will also be the opportunity to elect the region’s new representatives, namely:
- The President of Emmaus Europe
- The Councillors of Emmaus International (also known as CEI, who sit on the boards of Emmaus Europe and Emmaus International).
- The World Council on Training and New Generations members.
- The World Council on Political Action and International Solidarity members.
Finally, visits to the Emmaus groups in the Manchester region will be arranged on the first and final days of the meeting. They will enable participants to meet stakeholders in North West England; indeed, without their support, it would not have been possible to hold the assembly in Manchester.
