With the European Union elections less than two months away, Emmaus Europe is endeavoring to give to this campaign a more socially responsible slant, respecting human rights, which are key values of the Emmaus movement.
With the objective of raising awareness, Emmaus Europe calls out the candidates to the European elections of June 7th 2009 to remind them that the European Union remains in debt in terms of social rights to all of those who live on the European soil.
Since then, for Emmaus Europe it is necessary to fight in this individualistic society so as to achieve our aim: Serve first those who suffer most.
For that, three themes are approached in the letter:
Migrant’s rights: “At Emmaus, we offer an unconditional welcome, so we want the rights of migrants to be respected”
Poor housing and homelessness: “homelessness can be eradicated”
Solidarity economy: “By collecting, recycling and selling second-hand goods, our structures also carry out social inclusion initiatives, as they employ people who are experiencing difficulties”
Let’s propagate the wave!!
Download the model of letter below and send it in turn to your members of Parliament, local candidates to the European elections! Invite them to visit our communities, places for work and living!
So that Emmaus Europe’s voice becomes unavoidable on the European stage… all together, off to Brussels!
