From April 11th to April 14th 2009 a visit to the International Forum of Solidarity activities took place in Bosnia-Herzegovina, organized by the Bosnia Collective in preparation of the Srebrenica International Youth Camp.
Four representatives of French Emmaus groups (Emmaüs Elbeuf, Emmaüs Le Plessis-Trévise and Emmaüs Synergie) along with five young volunteers traveled for a whole day across approximately 4000 km for this encounter.
On April 12th a delegation from the International Forum of Solidarity (FIS) composed by the Director, the National Delegate and six young Bosnians guided them on a visit to the IFS installations, specially to the location where the “Occupational therapy – reeducation through work” project will take place which will start in the third trimester of 2009 in Doboj Istok.
After the arrival of two other Bosnia Collective (including a representative of Emmaüs Bayonne) a meeting was held concerning the organization of the International Youth Camp that will take place from July 9th to July 27th 2009 and will aim towards the promotion of a European state of mind amongst young people.
A visit to Srebrenica took place on April 13th including the Memorial to the Srebrenica genocide victims and the house located in Potocari which will be restored soon and from which the end of the construction work will be part of the activities during the Youth Camp.
The final goal is to equip the building for the accommodation of 15 to 20 people and allow the European Centre of services to the population of Srebrenica and its region (Bosnia).
Other activities during the Camp include the construction of skip platforms in Srebrenica; the division of a room in the Osmace’s school building; the distribution of furniture, clothes and staple products to the inhabitants as well as helping them with tasks such as cutting wood, evacuating building residues and paint works.
