For the attention of the Emmaus Groups,
Emmaus Europe provides an intensive solidarity with and for victims of war and the poorest people in both the European continent and to the Palestinian people; and condemns the arrest of the aid convoy to Gaza.
There is no justification for what happened yesterday. This action was brutal, disproportionate and deserves to be condemned. It is excessive because it was directed against a group that wanted to assist a weakened People.
The convoy attack in international waters makes us feel a mixture of indignation and sadness.
Indignation because it is a policy of a government which lies to the right of the political spectrum but also militaristic and authoritarian that do not advocate any dialogue.
Sadness because Israel has reduced its non-belligerent state compliance with international territories, as he showed yesterday.
But especially sadness because the ways chosen by Israel do not lead to the path of peace in this region. Peace cannot continue with attacks or with diplomacy locked in the pride and which refuses meetings and recognition.
Born from the meeting, the Emmaus Movement promotes it between brothers and refuses perpetual war. « Before it’s too late for you, listen to your new youth », Abbe Pierre, July 1970, in « A Land and Men ».
Emmaus Europe joins the call of Emmaus International, about the world public opinion, to express its condemnation to the acts that took place on the Gaza Strip.
