Emmaus Europe is holding a meeting at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 15 December 2015 on the theme of Peace and living together in Europe. For the second consecutive year, people from Emmaus groups in Europe will have the opportunity to tell MEPs about their work and the difficulties that they face on a daily basis.
The European Union is based on the values of respecting human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, while its objectives are promoting peace, its values and the well-being of its citizens. However, the social situation in Europe is critical. Consequently, there is a need for people to campaign for a more humane society which actually respects these shared values.
This meeting is a fresh chance to help awaken social and political consciences about the people who suffer most and is part of the Emmaus Movement’s campaigning work, begun by our founder, Abbé Pierre.
People from Emmaus groups in Europe are therefore invited to discuss proposals and potential initiatives which could bolster the work of the Emmaus Movement in Europe at the meeting scheduled to take place from 14:00 – 17:00 on 15 December 2015.
