Emmaus Europe

Emmaus and European advocacy

Europe – a vital decision-making level for Emmaus’ work

European policy plays a pivotal role in the daily lives of each of us, directly influencing aspects such as labour rights, efforts to address precarity, health, production and environmental issues. For example, European law governs workers’ rights across Europe and migration policy, and directly affects our collection, sorting, reuse and recycling work, which are fundamental aspects of the Emmaus groups’ efforts.

Emmaus proposals for a Europe that regains hope

It is vital that the  MEPs understand the urgent need to stand shoulder to shoulder with the most deprived people, go further on climate issues, and support the work of our groups. To this end, Emmaus Europe has drawn up a number of proposals for the EU 2024-2029 legislative mandate in order to create a Europe of renewed hope:

Deconstructing fear of foreigners: the Emmaus campaign for humane provision for migrants

The idea behind the posters is to open people’s minds to a discussion about the issue, and they should be displayed in our public areas so as to deconstruct people’s fears about receiving migrants. The posters are therefore available in the languages of the European countries in which Emmaus groups are located.

You can use the posters as a gateway to more in-depth discussions with your customers and other contacts, or to invite politicians to discuss Emmaus’ approach to migration and reception policies. This invitation could be supplemented by including Emmaus International’s publication “First global report on our fight against poverty”.

At the European level, this campaign is in keeping with the discussions started between the Member States on the European Council and with the European Parliament on the new Migration and Asylum Pact. This pact sets the policy directions for these issues for the coming years.

Our team is available if you want to undertake advocacy work or arrange a meeting with your customers and/or elected representatives: eve.poulteau@emmaus-europe.org

We still have a number of posters in stock, so let us know if you want them sent out by post:
contact@emmaus-europe.org

The posters are also available to download in different formats for each language:
a web format, a standard print format suitable for an office printer, and a professional printer’s format.

Solidarity with Ukraine

Many of you are supporting our friends from Ukraine and the neighbouring countries, and enabling them to help others. A big thank you to everyone for rallying round in the Emmaus way.

We are receiving a lot of questions about the best way to help. If you want to help, you can find here the main needs of the groups on the ground, and how to best meet them. You will also find answers to frequently asked questions and the information sent to all the European groups.

We also regularly share news from the groups on our Instagram account @emmauseurope and on the internal Facebook groups of Emmaus International (Act Emmaus) and Emmaus France (Emmaüs en Mouvement).

If you do not receive our emails, please sign up on the homepage of the member area. As all European groups are registered, please check your spam or any folders that filter your incoming emails or mark these emails as priority messages.

Information for clients and donors

Many of you are holding solidarity sales, with the profits being donated to the Ukraine Fund. We sincerely thank you for doing this.

Here are some posters to raise the awareness of the general public about the groups and work of Emmaus in Ukraine and on the Polish and Romanian borders. Equally, you could use the posters to inform customers wanting more information about how we use the funds. We have also included the Emmaus Europe logo if you need it for your communications.
