Today, the European Parliament is set to vote on the European Pact on Asylum and Migration, a crucial issue for the future of welcoming exiles in Europe. This shameful pact normalizes « pushbacks, » refusal of entry, and the imprisonment of refugees.

This is against basic international law, human and asylum rights #GenevaConvention #UDHR

🇫🇷 During this meeting in Paris, we went to Emmaüs Défi, a work-based integration and remobilisation project whose mission is to help people in extremely precarious situations to find or rediscover a place in society that is in line with their wishes and abilities.

💡Emmaüs Défi is also a social innovation laboratory whose mission is to find the best solutions to combat extreme exclusion and enable everyone to regain their dignity and their place in society.

The members of the Board have discovered the innovative projects launched by this large-scale structure! Thank you to Emmaüs Défi for welcoming us and sharing their experiences 🙏

Solidarity actions and European elections are at the heart of this meeting with the concern of how we can act for the restoration of peace 🌎

This first meeting with the new board members marks the start of a collective work with a motivated team 💪

On March 26th and 27th, the Romania Collective brought together passionate souls from our groups in France, Switzerland, and Finland to meet and collaborate with the three Emmaüs groups in Romania 🇷🇴🤝

For two days, we delved into the realities of the solidarity in Emmaüs. We shared the challenges faced by these groups, and brainstormed innovative ways to foster new forms of solidarity. 🫂

It's crucial to shed light on the harsh reality: our Emmaüs groups in Romania are facing relentless administrative harassment by the authorities, posing a genuine threat to their survival ‼️

✨️ More than ever, we need to put the solidarity first to protect our Emmaüs groups !! ✊️

We have just returned from Annemasse, and took awa

We have just returned from Annemasse, and took away with us some very rich discussions with the Polish, Ukrainian, Latvian, Georgian, French, Swiss, Finnish and Dutch groups (no less!).

We took the time to analyse the Emmaus groups’ economic models, to discuss the issues at stake in the European elections, and to talk about the war in Ukraine: the daily lives of Ukrainian citizens, the daily lives of the Oselya group in wartime, and the outlook for the coming years.

Meetings, enriching exchanges, new friendships and a better understanding of the dynamics of the Emmaus movement in Europe: that’s what we can take away from this meeting of the Poland-Ukraine Collective.

A very big thank you to all the volunteers, employees and companions at Emmaus Annemasse, where we received a very warm welcome! And a big thank you to all the participants for your contributions and your willingness to work for solidarity! 🕊️ 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

🌍🤝 The social economy should play a big role in stopping and dealing with textile waste !!

📄 The European Parliament is going to vote on the Waste Framework Directive report, and the Council is talking about their plan. We are joining over 80 leaders from international networks, NGOs, and national organisations from 18 European countries in an open letter to make the social economy stronger in reusing textiles and managing waste. Activities of social economy ogranisations are not just good for the environment but also helps make our communities and economies better. 🔄

🚨 Here's what we're asking for: 🚨

🫴 We want EU leaders to keep all the good rules about social enterprises dealing with used textiles in the Waste Framework Directive.

🧑‍⚖️ Social enterprises, along with local governments, should have a say in how things are done in plans to make producers responsible for their products.

💰 The fees that producers pay for their responsibilities should cover all the costs of reusing things done by social enterprises.

👕 Social enterprises should keep control over the used textiles they collect.

On International Women's Day, the spotlight is on the situation of women in the world 🌍

🗣️ In the first global report on poverty, Emmaus demands that women's access to political and economic life is guaranteed, and that inequalities and gender-based violence is combatted.

In most countries and cultures, despite efforts made over the years, young girls and women still bear the brunt of patriarchal dominant structures. If the aim of public policies is to defend the public interest, then they must start by effectively combatting violence and inequalities that affect women.

⚠️ According to the UN, gender equality is a human rights issue, and one of the greatest challenges, but one benefiting everyone. Investing in women is important to prevent increased poverty. In a current economic system that disproportionately affects women, special attention is needed to hear the voices of women and strengthen their economic independence.

Emmaus is committed to fighting poverty and its causes, until "the cause of each ill is eliminated. Gender inequality is one of the main causes of poverty in the world, and #Emmaus groups around the world continue to fight it 💪

🕊️ Our solution is simple - empower women through education and access to own income. The lack of access to education and income is indeed not a natural problem, but one created by the current patriarchal system we live in. Poverty is a political choice - and so is gender inequality!

Emmaus Europe was welcomed today by the Occitanie region in France to discuss the issues at stake in the European elections.
⚠️ Each country can act and mobilize on this key issue for Emmaus, both on issues of reuse, welcoming exiles and poverty. We will soon be present in other local assemblies in France and in european collectives to support advocacy initiatives🤝

✨ Yesterday, Emmaus Europe was present at the launch of the Union of Reuse for Solidarity (URS) at the French National Assembly. An initiative led by six committed national networks: @COORACE, @emmausfrance, @envie_org , @ESSFrance, @L’HeureuxCyclage, @National Network of Resource Centers and Recycling Centers. 🌍✨

This event was the much-anticipated moment when URS unveiled its ambitious proposals. In an era where citizens' sensitivity to ecological issues is growing, many companies seek to demonstrate their ecological and social virtues. However, an increasing number of brands are using reuse (the art of extending the lifespan of products) as a lever to increase sales and reputation, adopting the language and values of non-profit reuse (ecological and social impact). It's time for the confusion to end. ⏰🌱

The Union of Reuse for Solidarity aims to be the leading voice for social and solidarity economy structures specializing in reuse activities. It seeks to represent their interests effectively and demonstrate all their benefits in the service of the common good. 🤝💚

The presence of the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu a representative from DG Grow and MPs Astrid Panosyan-Bouvet and Gérard Leseul shows that URS is already on the right track to make a difference. 💼

Dear friends of Emmaus Oselya,
Today marks two years since Russia invaded Ukraine. All the while, a war is being waged that has many victims. That also makes war a horror.
This day would also be Olesya's birthday, the founder of Emmaus Oselya. Unfortunately she passed away 8 years ago.
Emmaus is a non-violent organization that also fights for peace. We as Emmaus Europe stand in solidarity with you. On February 24, 2022, Russia launched an outrageous attack on free and independent Ukraine. Since then, hundreds of thousands of victims have been reported. We understand how important it is
for Ukraine to fight back and that the solidarity of many countries around the world is important. Also the support of Emmaus Europe. In the meantime, many people are dying all over the world due to war violence. Of course, every war also has a cause. But it is also a task of Emmaus to prevent wars and make them impossible.
In Russia, protests against this war have been silenced. This totalitarian state does not tolerate people who resist this war of aggression. But many people in Russia are also opposed to this war. Either they have left the country in the meantime or they try to be as inconspicuous as possible. We must also show
solidarity with these people. Just like with the conscientious objectors in every war zone around the world.
So, like Emmaus, let us also keep an eye on Peace. Let every person continue to work for peace, but also stand up together against dictatorship and war violence. Let us always call on others to join us in the fight against war.

Hier, l’appel de l’abbé Pierre résonnait au Parlement européen 🕊 🇪🇺

Grâce au député David Cormand, nous avons eu la belle surprise lors de la session plénière du Parlement européen d’assister à un débat intitulé : "Commémoration du 70e anniversaire de l'appel de l'abbé Pierre pour lutter contre le sans-abrisme, dans le contexte persistant de la pauvreté et de l'exclusion sociale" 🎙️

Ce débat a donné l'occasion à tous les groupes politiques de s’exprimer et de mettre en lumière la lutte contre le sans-abrisme au sein de l’hémicycle.

Aujourd'hui, le Parlement européen commémore les 70 ans de l'appel de 54 en session plénière 🕊🇪🇺

La semaine dernière, le député européen David Cormand nous accueillait à Bruxelles pour célébrer les 70 ans de l’appel de l’abbé Pierre 🎙

À cette occasion, il avait annoncé qu'il demanderait un débat commémorant cet appel au Parlement européen, en session plénière. L'occasion pour l'#Europe de répondre à cet appel d'urgence qui résonne encore aujourd'hui !

C'est chose faite, le débat a été approuvé à une large majorité 💪 Il aura lieu ce soir à 20h50 et s'intitule « Commémoration du 70e anniversaire de l’appel de l’abbé Pierre concernant la lutte contre le sans-abrisme, dans le contexte persistant de la pauvreté et de l’exclusion sociale ».
